Your channel is a godsend for me. I over moisturized my hair and it got so weak. It cannot handle my beloved wash n gos anymore bc I was wetting it everyday and over oiling. I’ve decided to slowly go straight natural and increase protein while making sure I don’t over moisturize anymore and it’s been a struggle to adapt to having my hair dry! Your healthy take on heat training is wonderful!

I would love to be able to go a couple of weeks with my silk press but my scalp gets too itchy. I trying twistouts for the summer. I only retwist once or twice in a week. The good thing my texture has loosened from silk pressing so it doesn't tangle on wash day from wearing a twistout all week and I can wash my hair/scalp weekly..Excited to see my growth this fall.

Just subbed ☺️. I’ve been binging your vids on the topic and right there with you girl. What pushed me there was being a new mom. Whatever that will cut out the complications, I’m there. Plus I despise standing around with wet hair; I’m really tender headed; my scalp gets drier SO FAST; it’s easier to oil and massage my scalp. I just cut out damage and messed around and wore a twist out and boom, the single strand knots came back. I can go on lol. Wish you the best on your channel ❤

Just to clarify, are you moisturizing your hair every evening before you wrap your hair up for bed? Natural Nadine puts a tiny amount of mousturizer in her hair every evening and follows up with an oil to seal. I have been doing the same and have seen a difference. Do you do the same every evening or no? And if no, can you explain your reasoning? Im curious. ❤

I can personally say that as someone who used to have curly hair, that over time has become a lot less curly, but, my hair still has a level of texture to it, that my hair and scalp is in a much healthier state overall, by wearing it heat straightened. Also, I have hardly any shedding, as a result either. I honestly didn’t start r gaging in doing wash n gos, until I started coming across hair forums and much older videos on RUclips, and I followed that trend, but it truly has never been the best route for me to go with my hair or scalp. I behind to experience recurring scalp issues and I was seeing more hair shed, and honestly, waiting hours on end or sometimes well into the next day for my hair to fully air dry, I must say, I honestly look back with major regrets at how long I chose to stick with engaging in doing something that was never truly benefitting my hair and scalp best at no time during my natural hair journey. Also, I’m not dealing with recurring sinus infections/sinus colds the way I used to when I was doing wash n gos, which really aren’t wash gos, as it should be considered “wash, heavily manipulation, wait for your hair to airdry, and go even if it’s still damp or not”. Plus, I got more scalp and hair buildup by constantly doing wash n gos, then when it comes to my wearing my hair in a straightened state. And, most importantly I’m able to see the true length of my hair better in a straightened state, and my length retention is going great, and I have never experienced any heat damage and don’t let that type of fear come into play into my mind, period. As, I’ve seen so many people that are naturals act scared of using heat on their hair to straighten it, out of constant fear of getting heat damage. However, I find it ironic that they don’t have fear of their hair becoming damaged to doing wash n gos or other wet stylings that can easily result in causing scalp and hair shaft disorders. Sometimes people think the grass is greener on the other side, but then wait till you get there and see that it’s truly not. Which is why, the best option for my hair is to wear it heat straightened, and I have 0 regrets about it and have no plans to ever go backwards. Only forwards, continuing to do what is best for the overall health of both my hair and scalp, and enjoying every single beautiful part of this journey being a straight haired natural that comes with it. 😊😊😊😊 I thoroughly enjoyed watching this video so much. Thank you truly beyond measure for making it and staring it with us! ❤❤❤

Your overall hair care routine and the products you use does play a big part. Everyone’s hair straightening steps and products they use during the hair straightening process varies, also it is very important to have a professional cosmetologist that you do see as well. I do see one, however, my maintenance routine I have in-between salon visits is one that is quick and easy at this point. For my heat protectant that I put on my hair before I start the blow drying process, I use Color Wow’s Dream Coat. I make sure to go in sections and blow dry with tension. Never do large sections, that is a no, when it comes to getting a perfect silk press. Never rush through the process either. No heavy products that can weigh down your hair or that can cause it to easily revert should ever be used when working to get one’s hair as sleek and frizz free ad possible and keeping it that way. After I finish blow drying my hair in sections all over my entire head, I then go in with my flatiron to get the silk press action finalized. I take very small sections of hair, and I use the temperature for my hair that is correct. I am able to pass a flatiron over a section of hair more than once, if and when desired with no worries. It is okay to pass a flatiron over a section of hair more than once, without constantly worrying about heat damage, okay. Since, professional cosmetologists do the same. However, when flatironing a section of hair, do it slow and steady, never rush the flatiron through the hair. The temperature used towards your hair should always be the right temp needed for your own individual hair and it’s own specific type. When I am finished flatironing my entire head of hs air, I will sometimes apply a tiny bit of organic Argan oil or a tiny bit of Moroccanoil Treatment into the palm of one of my hands, rub both hands together, and make sure to use it as a finishing product for added frizz protection and shine. I don’t apply any oil to the scalp. I will wrap my hair after that, and I put a silk bonnet over my head. Just unwrap your hair in the morning, and you can wear it all the way down or in an updo or bun. You don’t need to apply any extreme product. As long as you detangle your hair daily, allowing for the natural sebum that comes out if your hair to flow down properly out of your scalp follicles without obstruction and down your entire hair shaft, your hair will naturally get more oily in between hair washes due to one’s own natural built in hair moisturizer (their own natural sebum being secreted from out of their scalp’s follicles). Some straight hair naturals wash their hair once a week, some every 2 weeks. Which ever you choose is fine. If one hair happens to need a slight touch up with heat in-between your next hair wash day, and they don’t want to use a flatiron, I use what I consider to be another option and that is using a straightening brush for that, like the ones Tymo sells or ones similar to such, like what I happen to own. I will just use that for a quick touch up. Now, if it is pairing down raining and you need to go out. you can rock a beautiful premade turban, where none of your hair is exposed, or thrown on a quick cap with faux hair attached to it, a baseball cap or any other cute cap or even a stylish hat, or even put on a quick wig and you’ll be set. Just get creative with it, that’s it and go on out the door rocking your super cute look to the fullest. Make sure to always re-wrap your hair nightly. I know a lot of people wear satin bonnets or satin scarves over the head, at night, but, I know that for some people it did start to affect their edges and nose, and also silk is much cooler to wear, versus satin. Which is definitely will be much better to deal with especially during this time of year all the way thru Summer, when it is hottest. Please know that the hair care products you use at home DO NOT have to be inexpensive. As, the most expensive item I use on my hair is my flatiron. However, I tell anyone to please go by what they can personally afford. In stead of Color Wow’s Dream Coat, before you blow dry your hair, you can simply use a spray leave in that has heat protection built in to it instead. And, to of course, have a trained professional that you can go to that is truly into healthy hair practices that you can really trust with your hair, that is within your budget. Please know that just because you are a Black woman, you don’t have to just seek out a Black licensed professional cosmetologist to do your hair, as there are non-Black individuals that have all types of races of clients okay. However, whoever you feel most comfortable with or personally prefer to go with overall is perfectly fine, either way. I have traveled to Houston a number of times, so I definitely know about how hot, humid, and rainy it came get there. So, I totally understand where your coming from. I was actually born in the South, Louisiana to be exact (I swear Louisiana is like rain, humidity, and Hurricane Central all-wrapped up into-one) However, everywhere I’ve ever been up until now, it gets hot and humid, and starts to become a bit more rainy around this time around this time as well, but i’m good with that. I just let my creative juices flow when it comes to styling my hair and I’m good to go. Much good luck to you with your hair journey. Hope this info is of great help ❤

Your hair is looking beautiful! I agree with Petite D - it's a waste of money to pay the salon cover your grays every time. I kept watching tutorials and talking to stylists who insisted that you need a 20 volume developer with a hair dye in order to cover the grays, but I decided to experiment with just using a 10 volume from Sally's (lower strength peroxide) along with the hair dye color that I prefer. My gray hairs are growing in fast all over the front and top of my head so my roots show quickly. I hate how it looks waiting 8 weeks to get my hair done and I didn't want to spend money going to the salon more frequently. Also, I am being careful about chemical processing, so I just pretty much touch up my new growth with the dye just like you would only put relaxer on the new growth. For me, the 10 volume developer is doing fine to cover the grays and I like being in control of the timing, the chemical exposure and the expense. Thank God for Sally's!

Can you make a short on how you wrap your hair in the shower? I have tried different methods, but my hair keeps getting damp in the shower.

My trick is I use 2 shower caps. I clip my hair up, put on a plastic shower cap, then I wrap one of those cloth sweat headbands around the edge (I got some that velcro close so you can make them tight if you want,) then I put the second shower cap on top of that. I also use a bobby pin to pin those shower caps tight. Might seem like a lot of work, but it's really not - I can get all that done while the shower water is warming up, and it keeps my hair good and dry that way.
